Not Bad at All & Great Value Smash Burgers @ A-100, Cascais
by Elise Xavierpublished on
Now, you have to understand - my husband Thomas and I are not ones for buying burgers all that often. We won't go to a sit-down restaurant and order a burger, as we are not ones who will typically order food that we can make at home.
If we do need a quick, easy meal ordered to the house, and don't care for anything fancy, we typically order our burgers from McDonalds or (on the off chance) Burger King, as here in Portugal, the quality of the burgers here are far better than in Canada or the States (thank you EU food legislation!)
But these smash burgers from A-100 were on sale on Uber Eats. And we figured why not, as they were dirt cheap to order, and while the last time we took to experimenting with cheap burgers - way back in 2022 - went absolutely awfully (looking at you Bullguer!), we threw caution to the wind and gave A-100's smash burgers a shot.
I'd never had a smash burger before, although I'd of course heard of them, and while Thomas had, we weren't so sure what to expect with regards to quality and taste from this place.
First impressions before eating - the branding is a bit over the top but not too bad at all (I like the "No Bullsh*t Added") on the wrapper when you start to open it up.
Arrived warm though not hot, even though it's still the summer, but that's because this place is a little far from our house. Glad they wrap the burgers to keep them warm and don't just throw them into the box.
The result? Pretty damn good value for the very low cost - both in terms of taste and in terms of how full you feel from one of these.

Definitely not too shabby on the size of the burger. And they feel super hefty in the stomach.
We had already had a small dinner early on and were just wanting something a little filling, but one-and-a-half burgers each would have been enough for a full dinner for the two of us.
Are they pretty to look at? I wouldn't say so.
But with regards to toppings and taste, the pickles were great, the sauces were up my alley and not too heavy to make the burger messy, the bread wasn't too sweet (albeit being on the sweet side)...
And the meat? Definitely better than I expected. Not over-cooked, very meaty tasting, definitely my jam.
A bit along the lines of a Double Cheeseburger from McDonalds, but way more filling and a lot more of that "home cooked burger" vibe. If that makes any sense.
Would I get them again? Probably. Most likely only if they are on sale, but a viable option nonetheless.
Glad we tried them, and maybe I'll be a little more adventurous with the sales on Uber Eats when it comes to burgers in the future.
